The state's monstrous budget gap has put a fright into the leaders of Florida's colleges and universities.
For good reason. It's a gap that could swallow up the state's future if too many students are cut off from college.
Lawmakers recently learned that Florida will be grappling with a $2.3 billion budget deficit this year.
That deficit, combined with declining property tax revenues and the continuing losses from stagnant growth and other problems related to the recession and the credit crisis, won't just hobble governments when it comes to providing basic services.
It will hurt students' chances to enter the world of higher education. <Full Story>

The first edition of WaterWorks has hit the public domain with a bang. The publication is a headline presentation of news featuring Edward Waters College students, faculty, and community. WaterWorks editorial edge and poignant commentary are a collaboration of English and Mass Communications majors, the Office of Institutional Advancement, and the EWC Schell-Sweet Community Resource Center.

The stage is now set for the seventh annual Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) Invitational Showcase, scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Ten top Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching bands have once again been chosen to participate in the 2009 Invitational Showcase, through a combination of online voting by fans, and a selection process involving HBCU band directors and university presidents.

KINGSLAND, GA, - Kamau Leither threw a 42-yard touchdown to Jonathan Johnson with 28 second left and Edward Waters rallied to beat Savannah State 26-21 on Saturday.
Leitner, who completed 16 of 25 passes, finished with 192 yards passing, three touchdowns and three interceptions for Edward Waters (3-7). <Full Story>
