Description of These Communities and Neighborhoods:
The historic areas of Riverside,
Avondale and San Marco hug the St Johns River and present the authentic
beauty of their old, elegant homes. They have the gorgeous tree lined
streets that offer the charm of living close to your neighbor and
saying "Hi" to people from your front porch, as they walk by.
Moving
south, along San Jose Blvd, which still hugs the St Johns River, there
are many different neighborhoods, still close to town, that offer a
wide variety of price ranges. As you move south, the Baymeadows area is
revitalizing with new shops and beautiful condominium communities.
Moving
East, in South Jacksonville, near University Blvd South &
West and Beach Blvd, homes are still close to town, yet only 15 minutes
to the beach. Again, there are a variety of prices. As you go further
East toward the Atlantic Ocean, near University of North Florida, there
are newer homes with neighborhoods of various prices.
Going back to San Jose Blvd and
moving South is Mandarin, a charming area of homes whose borders are
I95 on the East and the St Johns River on the West. Mandarin used to
be in the country not so long ago and consisted of horse farms and
large plantations on the river. Now, since it developed in the 80's
and 90's (and is still developing, especially toward the East), it is a
beautiful conglomerate of: historic Mandarin Rd with its canopied trees
moving parallel to the river; communities of a variety of prices and
styles including single family homes, townhomes and condominiums on
either side of San Jose Blvd; and the newer area of Bartram Park which
borders I95 with its newer shops and community, mostly consisting of
attractive townhomes and condominiums.
Continuing south along San Jose
Blvd or south along I 95, you will run into St Johns County. San Jose
Blvd turns into State Road 13 after you cross Julington Creek. Here,
going either way, you will enter upon hundreds of planned comminities,
the largest of which is Julington Creek Plantation. Off of SR 13, the
"plantation" offers a variety of activities and price ranges.
Going
south down I95 and taking the first exit, CR 210, you'll be met with a
large choice of golf and other planned communities, each with their own
individual beauty. Much building is still going from this area to SR
13. The intersection of I95 & CR210 is only 15 minutes to the
oldest city in the country, St Augustine and is still convenient to
Jacksonville.
